Little Yo sat up by himself for the first time today!

Neiwan

April Neiwan Adventures!

Getting ready to go! Rain? Who cares about rain? We are off to see the fireflies!
Head Count: Uncle B. J. Am. Little Yo, and nieces S. and E.

The first of many 7-11 breaks.
No. . .  wait. . .
I think technically this was the girl's second.
Still eating on that ice-cream. They were tearing down a building as we were walking to the train station.  It was very interesting to watch.
On the train headed up into the mountains! Hooray! We are on our way!

A beautiful river bed en route.

And flooded rice fields.

We arrive in Neiwan.
Notice the unique train. Always a lot of fun!

We stop for some fresh potato chips on a stick.

I watch a man carving bamboo.

It starts getting dark and we follow the throng up into the mountains, away from the main street of the village.  Midwestern country road it was not! I felt like a Caterpillar out of my childhood book Hope for the Flowers  http://www.hopefortheflowers.org/

As we were winding our way up the mountain a person ahead of us stepped on what looked like a snake! We jumped back, but then noticed it was an earth worm! not a snake.  We clogged the flow of the throng as we took a stick to lift it off the path on to the ground.  It was at least 18 inches long and as thick as a finger. I have never seen one even half that big! . . . unfortunately no photo. Sorry.

Fireflies were enjoyed, and then back down the mountain to get supper.

We ate fried crabs and squid . . .

and delicious Zhong Li  from our friends. . .

But not tofu or it's variants. . .

J. kept saying that he wanted corn on a stick.  But the train was coming and he never got any.
How many corn-on-a-sticks can you count in this photo?

Resting on the train ride home.
We had a lovely day. . . come visit, we will take you to Neiwan.
