Gardening Vicariously

Thank you for a lovely mothers day and time to put in the garden.

The basil patch is near the front door on the south with three kinds of basil. Thai basil, purple basil, and sweet basil.  They will be both decorative and culinary.

There is a parsley patch on the west of the house inter-planted with leeks and onion sets. We will have to use our bunny repellent regularly to keep Bugs Bunny and his large extended family at bay.

North of the building are our beautiful three sage plants, and two tomato plants. One is a sweet cherry tomato and another is an heirloom black tomato. This will be my first time trying an heirloom.

The plants were glowing in the dawn light this morning.

I pinched off the tomato blossoms so the plants could put their energy into their roots and transplant shock, and the fresh smell of the tomato blossoms reminded me of my mother one day in the Middle East when we found a wild tomato plant growing wild near a monastery. Mom smelled it and told us how it reminded her of her home back in Nebraska and growing up.    The gardening gene is hereditary!

I am getting up early to get work done before the boys wake up. Ironically they are now waking up early as well.

I am finding this is so good for my soul!

Enjoy!
